Travis County Has Coronavirus Shots For Under 2% Of Population
Even though demand far outstrips supply, residents are encouraged to preregister to be on deck for the next round of vaccinations.
AUSTIN, TX — The number of vaccinations for the coronavirus that have been delivered in Travis County is barely enough for 2 percent of the regional population, the mayor said on Tuesday.
"It is simply not enough — even for our Phase 1A or Phase 1B," Mayor Steve Adler wrote in a message to residents on Tuesday. The former phase covers first responders while the latter refers to those over the age of 65 who are the groups most vulnerable in contracting the virus causing respiratory illness eligible for initial vaccination rounds. "There’s just not enough supply for the hundreds of thousands of those qualifying people to get their shots. We ask for your continued patience until the federal and state governments distribute more vaccine doses."
Despite the anemic supply of shots, Adler encouraged residents to preregister into the county system to be alerted of vaccine availability. Pregister for the vaccine here. Those without internet service can call the Austin Public Health nurse line at 512-972-5560.

"For folks who have received their first dose from Austin Public Health (APH) and are awaiting their second dose, APH will reach out directly to you," the mayor wrote. Individuals will be able to schedule their second dose in a separate process from people receiving the first dose," he noted "If you received your first dose from a provider other than APH, please contact that provider about receiving your second dose," the mayor advised.
The mayor provided additional resources to help answer residents' questions they may have regarding eligibility for the vaccine, preregistration and distribution.
