University of Texas Football Opener Changes Date, Time

Texas vs. Notre Dame will now kick off on Sunday instead of Saturday.

The University of Texas football team's season opener against Notre Dame is moving from Saturday to Sunday and will kick off at night, according to a Texas press release.

The game was originally slated for September 3, the opening Saturday of the 2016 college football season. Now, it will be played on Sunday, September 4, in an "exclusive, primetime window," the release said.

The exact time and TV details have not been announced, but the game will be played at night, the release said.

The NFL will still be in preseason that weekend, so the game won't interfere with any professional football.

"When you hear Texas Longhorns and Notre Dame Fighting Irish it grabs everyone's attention," Texas Men's Athletics Director Mike Perrin said in the release. "That's a historic sporting event that fans worldwide want to see. This schedule provides a wonderful opportunity to play the game in an exclusive window so everyone can see it. We discussed it quite a bit and took into account all of the factors in making the decision."
