Weekend Events Offer Something For Everyone

From outdoor hikes to free movies, Austin weekend events include loads of fun for everyone to enjoy.

AUSTIN, TX -- Rejoice...the weekend is near! If you're like many of us, it's time to get out of that holiday funk. From non-stop Christmas music to endless ugly sweater parties...too much of a good thing is real. So, here's our roundup for the weekend...and the best part, there's something for everyone to enjoy!

Thursday, January 3

  • Harry Potter Drive-In Film Fest: Blue Starlite Drive-In will feature a month-long Harry Potter Film Fest beginning Thursday, January 3 at 6 PM. Every movie will be double-featured and guests will enjoy wizard treats, drinks, and photo ops. This year the annual film fest will be held at the new Mueller location where there will be more fun to be had in the Enchanted Forest area. For ticket pricing and information, click HERE.
  • FREE Bhakti Yoga Class: The UT Bhakti Yoga Club invites guests to its FREE Bhakti Yoga Class to be held at Benedict Hall on Thursday, January 3 from 7 PM - 9 PM. To register and for directions, click HERE.
  • Friends for Now (Improv): Start your weekend off with a laugh, enjoy Friends For Now -- a new troupe that features some of Austin's best improvisers on Thursday, January 3 from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.   • 2019 Austin Boat Show: Open to all ages, the Austin Boat & Travel Trailer Show is a 3 day event and will begin Friday, January 4 from 1 PM - 9 PM at the Austin Convention Center.   • Community Cinema Presents Disney's Frozen: Mobile Loaves & Fishes invites the community to its FREE Movie Night with a presentation of Disney's Frozen on Friday, January 4 from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM at the Community Cinema & Amphitheater.   • Emo's Pink Floyd Laser Spectacular: Set to the timeless sounds of Pink Floyd, Emo's presents a laser spectacular like no other on Friday, January 4 beginning at 8 PM. Fans will enjoy a one-of-a-kind visual experience and be left wanting more. For information, click HERE. Tickets $27.

Saturday, January 5

  • FREE Sportball Class at Circle C Metro Park: Families are invited to a FREE hour of Sportball Class act Circle C Ranch Park on Saturday, January 5 beginning at 9:30 AM. The Sportball event is ideal for children ages 18 months through 5 year old, and is a fun and creative class to try outdoors. Events will be broken down to 2 categories from 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM children 18 months to 2 years old will be able to participate as part of a parent/child team. From 10:15 AM - 11:15 AM older children ages 3-5 will participate in a coach and child class while parents get to sit back and enjoy coffee. Sportball classes are offered throughout Austin.   • Queer Trans New Year's Social: The Q Austin invites you to the Queer Trans New Year's Social to enjoy some great music and sharing of New Year's resolutions on Saturday, January 5 beginning at 11 AM. Snacks and drinks will be provided at this FREE event where LGBTQIA+ folks can come together to connect and build a stronger community and share conversations.   • Star Walk: REI invites you for a magical night hike under the stars on Saturday, January 5 beginning at 5 PM at the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve. Attendees will enjoy a laser guided tour of key constellation and other nighttime objects throughout this special evening experience. Hikers will use headlamps and take in the amazing sights of the park at night. Hikers will also learn to navigate night trails and how to locate common constellations to enjoy for future outings.
