Winter Weather Advisory For The Austin Area This Week
TXDOT began treating roads and highways ahead of the temperature drops expected this week.

AUSTIN, TX -- The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) began treating Austin roadways Monday morning as forecasters predict the potential for freezing rain this week. Icy conditions for the Austin area could potentially arrive just after the New Year with temperatures expected to plunge as early as Tuesday night.
According to TXDOT, pretreating roads in advance of a storm prevents ice from sticking to the pavement. Work crews will be on standby to respond and address any ice situations should the need arise. Drivers are encouraged to slow down as they navigate their way around the city and to exercise increased caution when using bridges or overpasses, as these are the first to freeze.
