'Austin Music Experience' Touches Down At Airport
Musical initiative at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport features local music played overhead from curbside to concourse.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Austin-Bergstrom International Airport officials have launched a partnership featuring local musicians designed for the enjoyment of travelers.
Launched on Feb. 5, the initiative features overhead music playing throughout the Barbara Jordan Terminal from a live-streamed play list of Austin artists, all personally selected by local public radio station KUTX 98.9 FM.
The musical strains showcasing locally inspired sounds can be heard from curbside to the concourse, officials noted: “The minute travelers step off of the plane in Austin they will know that they’ve arrived in the Live Music Capital of the World,” said ABIA's Michael Pennock.

The stream features a wide variety of local music, from classic Texas swing, country, rock, pop and hip-hop, explained Pennock, with KUTX adding and updating the playlist on a regular basis. Coinciding with the City of Austin Music and Entertainment Division and the Austin Music Foundation declaring February “Love Austin Music Month,” the partnership helps connect Central Texas musicians to the millions of travelers who pass through the airport each year, officials said.
“KUTX is thrilled to partner with our friends at Austin-Bergstrom to spread the gospel of Austin music,” said Matt Reilly, program director for KUTX. “Introducing the Austin Music Experience to a global audience will further strengthen this cultural and economic pillar of our city.”
