Canned Beer Festival Coming to East Austin

Ticket information: The Untapped Festival organizers are celebrating canned beer this December.

Canned beer is so popular in Austin that the organizers behind the Untapped Texas Beer Festival have decided to throw another party dedicated exclusively to suds that come with a pop-top.

On Dec. 5, Austinities can get their canned beer fix at the Canned Festival on the Austin Studios lot. Forty breweries and 125 of their canned beers will be in attendance while festival attendees enjoy live music.

“We just want people to have a fun evening,” Untapped Festival’s general manager Corey Pond told Patch. “Canned is a more laid back festival than Untapped, so just come hang out with friends, drink some great beer and listen to some great music.

The creators tested the festival in Austin for the first time earlier this year, and after it proved to be successful, they decided to bring it back.

“We held the original canned festival several years ago in Denton, Texas, and we’ve been wanting to try it out somewhere else ever since,” Pond said. “We enjoy doing stuff outdoors quite a bit - beaches, fishing, hiking, biking and the like. The can is an ideal vessel for this and it’s environmentally friendly. When you combine our personal enjoyment of the can with the growing consumer demand, it just seemed like a fun thing to do.”
