Community Conversation In ATX Will Discuss Teaching And Learning

AUSTIN, TX -- Deans for Impact -- a national nonprofit organization that empowers, supports, and advocates on behalf of leaders at all levels of educator preparation who are committed to transforming the field and elevating the teaching profession -- will host its Leading & Learning Series on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM.

A forum for community conversation that focuses on the teaching and learning in K-12 and higher education, this event will offer invaluable insight for educators, parents, and the community. Dr. Courtney Robinson, founder of the Excellence and Advancement Foundation, will offer a short presentation and there will be an opportunity to mingle with knowledgable individuals from Austin's education community.

The Excellence and Advancement Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming how communities combat the school-to-prison pipeline and mass incarceration. Using an ecosystems approach to offer prevention, intervention, and advocacy, The Excellence and Advancement Foundation assists schools, justice systems and community organizations with critical, transformative and restorative solutions to culture, race, school discipline and incarceration.

Dr. Robinson's presentation will explore the topics of race and culture and their impact as a means to improve outcomes for youth involved with school discipline or the criminal justice system. In addition, Dr. Robinson will discuss her personal journey as a child impacted by race and incarceration, and will delve into her research on the correlation between schooling, incarceration, and race.
