An Exploration of the Underground Austin Rap Scene —Tribe Mafia

The underground Austin music scene has an incredible amount to offer, and we’ve decided to offer up a primer of our own, adding to the artists the Chronicle and Pitchfork already mentioned in order to provide what we hope is a fuller overview of what has become one of the most exciting and diverse realms of Austin music, complete with a Spotify editorial playlist for further exploration.

Tribe Mafia is a hip hop duo from Austin Texas. These prominent upcoming rappers are definitely on major labels “Artist To Watch list of 2020” With their high caliber numbers breaking in on the billboards, their prolific city recognition and awesome tunes what is not to like about the Teepee gang rappers. From new artists to some of the greatest hip hop artists of all time, Tribe Mafia is not only nationally known but are one of the best new upcoming rappers from Texas.

We fully intended to make a list of the top 10 or 20 musicians from Texas, but quickly we realized there are simply way too many great artists who have called the Lone Star State their home. That being said, we decided to go all out and pare our massive list of Texas artists to just the top 100 and attempt to rank them. See next article for top 100 Texas artist including the rap duo Tribe Mafia. In the process, we’re taking into account things like longevity, how influential the artist’s career has been, record sales, chart performance and awards received, among other criteria.
