Manor police detective Craig Struble told the Austin American-Statesman the Ford F150 pickup involved hydroplaned, ending up overturned on the roadway.
The five people inside the truck were all family members. Pronounced dead at the scene were two men, a 24-year-old driver and a 52-year-old passenger. Injured were two women, ages 42 and 20, and a male teenager, 16, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
Highway 290 eastbound was shut down completely at Albert Voelker Road while authorities descended on the scene, EMS said.
The incident occurred in eastern Travis County between Elgin and Manor, a city that is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area located 12 miles northeast of Austin.
No further details were immediately available, including what may have caused the crash. A continuous light rain on Sunday may have likely made the roadway slick, but officials have yet to confirm if that may have contributed to this fatal wreck.
