Holidays With Latinx Flavor Offered At Austin MACC
Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center has a full array of free family programming to close out the year next month.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — For those wanting to celebrate the holidays with a Latinx flavor, the Mexican American Cultural Center has got you cubierto.
Formally the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center, the Hispanic-centric museum and community focal point at 600 River St., has a full array of programs during the holiday season. And here's something extra nice: These offerings are all free! Among the programs scheduled at the MACC:

This heart-warming comic performances created for all audiences tells the story of Abuelita, a Mexican-American grandmother who starts to believe her life doesn't matter. But that's before the spirits from her past emerge to prove how much she's truly loved. Think a cross between "A Christmas Carol" and "It's a Wonderful Life" but with a Latina matriarch in the central role. The show is scheduled Friday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Black Box Theater.

Presented by UNIVISION TV and the ESB-MACC, this program kicks off Christmas season with music, arts activities and family entertainment. The outside event features posadas, ornament making, musical acts, ballet folklórico, mariachis, and prizes for kids. The event will be videotaped and aired on Christmas Eve on Univision TV. Noche Navideña with Univision is scheuled on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Zócalo.

The MACC's Figúralo annual student art exhibition showcases work in various media representing myriad themes exploring figurative narratives. Celebrate Austin's young creatives with a family-friendly opening reception, and stay for Noche Navideña on the plaza. The Figúralo exhibition will be on display until Jan. 12, 2019. The opening reception is scheduled on Friday, Dec. 8 from 4 p.m to 6 p.m. at the Sam Z. Coronado Gallery.
