Learn About Astronomy Over Beer in East Austin

Want to know the latest on the Kepler spacecraft? Like beer? Then Astronomy on Tap is for you!

Join three local astronomers for some out-of-this-world conversation about spaceships, planets and galaxies far, far away at the Astronomy on Tap event in East Austin next week.

Taft Armandroff, director of the McDonald Observatory, will give “behind-the-scenes stories” from the observatory, and from his days leading the Keck Observatory in Hawaii, according to organizers.

Adam Kraus, assistant professor of astronomy at the University of Texas, will talk about the Kepler spacecraft, NASA’s space observatory built to discover Earth-like planets, and “the new and exciting field of searching for planets around other stars.”

Dawn Davies, outreach chair for the Austin Astronomical Society, which was founded in 1969, will talk about “how to do astronomy in your own backyard.”

The event is Sept. 15 at the North Door, located at 501 Brushy St. at 7:30 p.m.
