Magic Of Latina Friendship Explored In East Austin-Staged Play

Dark comedy by renowned playwright/screenwriter Tanya Saracho, directed by Claudia M. Chávez runs until Sept. 17.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — A hilarious yet touching story spotlighting a group of modern-day Latinas and the magic of friendship is staged at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.

A dark comedy by renowned playwright and screenwriter Tanya Saracho and directed by Claudia M. Chávez, the dark comedy at the Teatro Vivo centers on Alicia — a successful art curator who seems to have her life together. She turns to her friends for support when her world is turned upside down, and together they seek the guidance of wise señoras—and a little hoodoo, santería, curanderismo, and nostalgia for good measure—to make things right again.

Starring Karina Domínguez, Emily McDougall, Eva McQuade, Bárbara Mojica, JoJanie Segura Moreno, and Minerva Villa-Rivera, the play contains strong language and adult themes. It runs until Sept. 17.
