'Monkey Town 6' Takes Date Night to Another Level
Try this East Austin pop-up for date night.
If you’re getting burned out on the same old date ideas, Monkey Town 6 is shaking up the “dinner and a movie” scene in East Austin.
This unique dining experience brings global talent to the dinner table. Traveling through New York, Denver, and even a stint in Barcelona, this legendary restaurant pop-up is going to be at the former Balcones Recycling Depot on East Sixth and Pedernales streets for three months.
“The audience sits inside a massive 27-foot cube, watching a two-hour multichannel video program, dining on 4 or 5-course menus from Chef Sonya Coté,” according to the restaurant’s website.

The pop-up boasts a very diverse menu, including locally sourced ingredients for crafted dishes and wine pairings for many tastes. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available as well. The entertainment isn’t lacking, either. Patrons can look forward to short films from filmmakers such as Agnes Bolt, Theo Angell, Kristin Lucas, Joe McKay and Scott Gelber. There will also be weekly performance residencies by local and national artists, including LOLA Opera, Julian Neel, TJ Wade and Zac Traeger.
Tickets to the event range from $45-$65, with two seating times at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. available each night through Feb. 7. Monkey Town 6 will open its doors on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
