Tornados Possible As Severe Weather Moves Through Texas

The Austin area will be in its path.

Dangerous winds combined with large hail are moving toward Austin as part of a severe weather system expected to move through Texas Monday and beyond. Tornados are possible.

Thunderstorms are expected to move into Austin around 3 p.m. and continue to the night, according to the National Weather Service.

“Damaging winds,” “large hail” and “isolated tornadoes” are all possible Monday in Austin, the service said.

The storms are expected to continue in Austin into Tuesday where the “main weather threats will be damaging winds and large hail,” said the service, adding it “can not rule out an isolated tornado” during that time.

  • West Texas will see the biggest severe weather threat Monday during the day, including Abilene, Lubbock and Odessa.
  • Monday through the night, the storm will move through North and Central Texas, with Austin, San Antonio and Dallas under threat.
  • By Tuesday, the storms will continue into East Texas in Houston and Corpus Christi. The system is expected to move out in Louisiana and Arkansas from there.

“These storms should merge into an intense squall line, which will track across north, central and eastern Texas, Oklahoma, southern Kansas and possibly parts of western Arkansas and northwest Louisiana” Monday night, the channel said.
