Vegan Favorite Veggie Heaven to Reopen Near East Austin
The new Veggie Heaven menu will bring back old favorites while also adding new items.

They say you can’t fight true love. For Austinites, that notion applies to to the love of food, too.
Thanks to an outpouring of requests, local vegetarian and vegan favorite, Veggie Heaven is coming back to downtown Austin by popular demand. The resturant will reopen its doors in the 5th Street Commons Building at 1611 Fifth St. next year after closing down the Guadalupe Street location last December. Stacy Chen, the daughter of retired Veggie Heaven founder Mei Wang, will operate the new location.
“We feel like we are a real part of the Austin community,” Stacy Chen said in a statement to Austin360. “We’re very happy to be opening back up in Austin. Hopefully we can help keep Austin weird.”

The new restaurant location will bring in new menu items, but it will also revive old favorites like the steam buns and the Tangerine Mushroom. Menu items will still remain vegetarian and vegan, while beer and wine and be a welcome addition to the large menu. The restaurant is expected to open in March, and Wang will occasionally make an appearance to welcome guests.
