Wildfire Alert For East Austin

The National Weather Service is still asking Austinites to stay on alert for the heightened wildfire risk.

The National Weather Service is predicting a sunny and dry day with an elevated wildfire risk in central Texas.

The weather service is asking residents to stay alert amidst the recent wildfires in Bastrop County. While firefighters have been able to contain most of the wildfire, the weather service is still asking residents to take note of the following tips:

  • Be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
  • Listen to local radio and television stations for updated emergency information.
  • Always back your car into the garage or park it in an open space facing the direction of escape.
  • Confine pets to one room so that you can find them if you need to evacuate quickly.
  • Arrange for temporary housing at a friend or relative’s home outside the threatened area.

These tips were provided by the National Weather Service.
