Judge Raises Bail Of Memorial City Mall Attacker To $200K

Judge doubled bail in attempt to keep Maurice Mosley off the streets after vicious attack on a stranger.

HOUSTON, TX — A judge doubled the bail for Maurice Mosley, who's accused of a savage attack on a woman inside a mall restroom 10 days ago. According to the report, Moseley followed a woman into a restroom at Memorial City Mall, began strangling her with a trash bag he fashioned into a rope, and then kicked her repeatedly before fleeing on foot.

Investigators said they identified Mosely using surveillance video, and officers in that area recognized him from previous calls. He was arrested last week, and a judge set his bail at $100,000. This morning, the judge raised bail to $200,000 since it was an attack on a stranger, citing Moseley a continual threat if allowed back on the streets.

If Mosley does make bond, he'll be on house arrest and be required to wear a GPS monitoring system.

In a report by ABC13, mall visitor Ashley Hill found the woman in the restroom after the attack. She said the woman was "face down in a pool of blood near the sinks, moaning for help."

"She was missing at least one or more teeth, she was bleeding from every side of her head I could see, out of her ears. She was in really bad shape," said Hill.

Police said that after a 31-year-old woman walked into a restroom around 8:30 a.m. at the mall, she was confronted by an unknown man who approached her from behind and placed a trash bag around her neck. Police said the suspect strangled the victim until she lost consciousness, and then he kicked her repeatedly before fleeing and boarded a METRO bus southbound on Gessner Street.

The woman was taken to an area hospital where she is expected to survive, according to doctors.

Her father spoke to ABC13 last week about Mosley's arrest.

"This has to be one of the most vicious and brutal attacks imaginable. This guy is a threat to everyone if he is on the street. I'm glad this guy is off the street," he said.
