The Spanish libation is a favorite, especially in hot weather, and here's where to get your fill.

HOUSTON, TX — Sangria is never a bad idea. It's refreshing, cool, delicious, and it contains alcohol. A pitcher shared with friends on a sunny afternoon is a perfect way to spend some time talking, laughing, and planning what to have for dinner. The drink's origins are not know with certainty, though the theory that its names derives from the Spanish word for blood is plausible. No matter the etymology, sangria is a favorite the world over, for good reason.
A lot of places in Houston serve the wine-based beverage, and many of them do it well. But how do you know where to go? Here's a look at the top six sangrias in the Houston area, as determined by Yelp! users.

"There's a daily happy hour menu that I love to take advantage of. Open until 6:30 pm they offer red wine sangria for $5 and one dollar off wine by the glass... Coupled with 50% off their pizzas, this makes for a great evening." (Tashi L.)
3. Sassafras
"This is a no frills place, but drinks are good and fairly inexpensive. The white sangria is delicious. I highly recommend it if you like a sparkling wine drink that's not too sweet. Although a small bar, there's indoor and outdoor seating.” (Shelene L."
4. Mia's Table
"This is the place where the whole family can eat comfort food... The patio is a great place to sit and watch people going in and out... My biggest suggestion is the frozen pear sangria. The pitcher was well worth it." (Cicely B.)
5. Ambrosia
"My favorite libations there are the White Coconut Sangria and Taste of Tropics, which are both quite sweet." (Sally L.)
"Love it here!!! Wine and cheese trays sounds good to me! (No regular food served here))The sangrias are really good and they have a wide ranger of different wines. Plus it's drink specials all threw the week. It's beautiful home made cakes and pies at the bar. You also have a choice of being seated outside or inside." (Shermika H.)
