HOUSTON, TX — Famous athletes from baseball to football, basketball, Winter Olympics and particularly soccer will join forces next weekend to help raise money for Hurricane Harvey Relief. Even an astronaut will join several celebrities to make Kick In For Houston and event that should be out of this world.

Now just more than 100 days since the powerful Category 4 storm made landfall and drenched Houston with historic floods, a celebrity soccer match will take place Dec. 16 at BBVA Compass Stadium to continue efforts to help Houston rebuild. The game will begin at 5 p.m., and ticket information is located below.

The event was conceived by former Houston Dynamo and U.S. Men’s National team member, Stuart Holden.

"After the devastation of the storm passed, I was inspired by the how the Houston community came together to support each other, Holden said. "It’s a community that welcomed me when my family immigrated from Scotland when I was 10 and gave me my first real chance at professional soccer with the Houston Dynamo. While I am thankful that my family’s homes were spared, I want to find a way to help the thousands who were not as fortunate."

Holden turned to social media for ideas on how to help his hometown. His followers suggested a charity soccer match and the event blossomed organically from there. With commitments from some of the biggest soccer and sporting personalities in the United States, Holden hopes that this event will be an opportunity to bring the community together, raise money for flood and hurricane victims, and show that despite the uphill battle they face, the great state of Texas will persevere and stand together.
