2 HPD Officers Hurt In Crash During Pursuit: Police

The chase began at about 12:30 a.m. when police tried to pull over a car for traffic violations near Texas Southern University.

HOUSTON — Two Houston Police officers are recovering from minor injuries they suffered during a high-speed chase Monday morning. The chase began at about 12:30 a.m. when police tried to pull over a car for traffic violations near Texas Southern University.

The driver refused to stop and led police on a chase that lasted nearly an hour and meandered through areas of southeast Houston.

The chase eventually ended when officers crashed into a tree near State Highway 288 after unsuccessfully trying to force the suspect off the roadway with a PIT maneuver, police said.

The suspect fled and was caught a short time later with the help of HPD K-9 officers, police said.
The injured officers were taken to an area hospital.

The suspect was also taken to an area hospital after he was bitten by the K-9 officer. He is expected to be charged later, police said.
