$5,000 Reward Offered in Houston Shooting of Jefferson County Judge

Tom Gillam III was shot on January 31 near the intersection of Martin Luther King and Dolittle boulevards.

HOUSTON, TX — It was New Year's Eve, and Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam III had guided his car into a parking lot to take a call. The call over, Gillam prepared to continue his journey, but, according to investigators, a woman approached his car and demanded money. The judge refused her, twice. Then, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt walked toward the blue Mercedes-Benz, pulled a pistol from his waistband, and shot at Gillam.

The judge received wounds to his face, believed to have been caused by bullet fragments, but recovered. However, the shooter is still at large.

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to the arrest of the assailant, a black male who stands between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs between 150 and 170 pounds.
