Not plans for Halloween? Patch shares a list of ways Houston families can celebrate on this All Hallows' Eve.

Halloween is the spookiest time of the year—and the sweetest, with tricks and treats abound for Houston residents of all ages. The question is: how will readers choose? Houston Patch has the answer with a list of 10 alternatives for children and families seeking to celebrate the magic and mischief of All Hallows' Eve.
- Halloween Monster Mayhem: Happening at the Children's Museum of Houston through Oct. 31, the Halloween Monster Mayhem welcomes children to an early evening of spooky science experiments and free trick-or-treating. Attendees will explore the mansion while wearing their best costumes.
- Zoo Boo: A Halloween party takes over the Houston Zoo through Oct. 31. The annual event comprises kid-friendly fun with trick-or-treating, a costume parade, a "living pumpkin" patch, monster mural, the Monster Mashquerade and candy corners. Zoo Boo is included with admission: $13 for children ages 2-11 and $17 for adults. The Houston Zoo is located in Hermann Park.
- Scream on the Green: Presented by UnitedHealthcare, the ninth, annual, citywide Scream on the Green takes place Oct. 28 from 6-10 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the costume contest. The event will also feature a Halloween spectacle, a film and music by DJ Astra. Attendees will have an opportunity to win candy and other treats through playing free games. Vendor booths will be on site as well as other activities. Living statues, fortune tellers, strolling balloon artists and LED characters/hula-hoopers are abound. A blended beauty photo opportunity will be available from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Costume contest registration begins at 7 p.m., with the contest held at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a screening of Little Shop of Horrors at 9:10 p.m. Contest prizes will be announced for the following categories: Infant to 8 years old, 9-17 years old, best female at 18 years or older, best male at 18 years or older, best family and best dog. Admission is free.
- Moe's Monster Mash Bash: The Children’s Museum of Houston hosts a kid-friendly Halloween party Oct. 31 from 3-8 p.m. Families will be able to participate in trick-or-treating, a "Thriller" dance party, a monster mash-up, live DJ and more. The event is free to attend with museum admission: $12 for children and adults. The museum is located at 1500 Binz.
- Harry Potter Party: Channeling the magic of the holiday, it's the season of the witch—or wizard—at the Houston Public Library with a Harry Potter party commemorating the Nov. 8 release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., the party will feature games and sweets, followed by a screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, capped off by a trivia game and an award for best costume. This event is open to children ages 5-10 and teens ages 13-18. Call (832) 393-1313 for more information.
