Abuse Charges Against Dad To Be Upgraded After Infant Son Dies

HOUSTON — Child abuse charges filed against a Katy man this week are expected to be upgraded after the child he is accused of beating, died. Luis Angel Pacheco, 27, is accused of causing serious head injuries to his 2-week-old son Daniel Pacheco, which ultimately caused his death.
Pacheco was charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child on Monday. He was arrested at Texas Children's Hospital in Katy by Harris County deputies.
According to investigators, EMS personnell were called to Pacheco's home in the 16600 block of Gaeldom Drive because the baby was having trouble breathing hours after hitting his head on a concrete floor.

After speaking with Pacheco, doctors at Texas Children's Hospital called Harris County Child Abuse investigators.

Doctors told investigators that Daniel Pacheco had numerous blunt force injuries to his skull and other blunt force injuries on his stomach and groin area.
Pacheco, who according to investigators was unable to explain the injuries, said he was carrying his son and dropped him.
The baby suffered a head injury, and Pacheco said he did not tell his wife, who was in another room.
The family called 911 when Daniel began to have trouble breathing. Luis Pacheco is being held in the Harris County Jail with his bond set at $250,000.
