Boy, 5, Who Went Missing From School Found Safe

Young Charlie Cruz did not tell his parents where he was going. Lots of people got worried.

HOUSTON – A 5-year-old boy who hitched a ride on the wrong school bus Monday afternoon was found unharmed at a friend’s home hours later. Charlie Cruz, who attends the Energized for Excellence School Academy in southwest Houston, got on a school bus at about 3:30 p.m., police said.

However, instead of going home, Cruz went to his friend’s house to play without telling his parents, police said. Police began scouring the area after being alerted to the boy’s disappearance.

Several hours later, police received a call from his friend’s home that Cruz had been at the home playing after school, police said.

Officials said Cruz, who was reunited with his parents at about 11 p.m. Monday, was never in any danger.

The incident is under investigation.
