Standoff Ends: Police Arrest Houston Man Who Held Family Hostage
SWAT officers arrested a man who held several people hostage, including a small child during a 6-hour stand off.
HOUSTON — A man who held a 1-year-old child and other family members hostage inside a home near Sunnyside in southeast Houston was arrested after a six-hour stand-off, police said.
Houston Police were called to the home at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday by a woman who said a man with a gun was choking her, officials said.
Officers learned that the man with a gun inside the home was holding five people hostage, including a 1-year-old child, police said.

Shortly before noon, some of the hostages, saw an opportunity to escape when the gunman, who was on the phone with police, lowered his weapon.
Police said when this happened, several of the jumped on the man and held him down while the other hostages escaped.

Police said the gunman has a history of mental health issues and is known to police. He was taken to the Harris County Jail and could face charges of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
