Burglary Suspect Wounded In Police Shootout In Stable Condition
Two police officers were involved in a shootout with a burglary suspect who they caught crawling out of a hole in a pawnshop, police said.
HOUSTON — A burglary suspect who got into a shootout with Houston Police officers Wednesday morning is recovering at Ben Taub Hospital.
Police responded to a burglary alarm at about 12:15 a.m. at the Cash America Pawn at 5219 Airline Drive in northwest Houston.
When officers arrived, the saw hole cut into the wall in the back of the business. According to a press release, the officers saw a light shining into the hole, and then a hand poking out of the hole.

Police ordered the man to show both his hands, but the suspect instead pointed a gun out of the hole and started firing at officer, police said.
One of the officers returned fire at the burglary suspect as he tried to run and fired back at the first officer.

The second officer came to assist, and saw the burglary suspect running westbound on East Rodgers Street. The officer said he exchanged gunfire with the suspect, who ran and tried to hide under a nearby vehicle.
The burglary suspect was captured and taken to Ben Taub Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds to his left arm
Charges have not been filed against the burglary suspect, and the investigation is still ongoing, according to police. The two officers are on administrative leave, which is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents.
