CEO OF Houston's MD Anderson Cancer Center Resigns

Ronald DePinho, who has led the renowned research and treatment institution for six years, steps down.

HOUSTON, TX — Ronald DePinho, the CEO of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, announced his resignation today.

“Chancellor William H. McRaven has asked me to stay on through the end of the Texas Legislative session, and we will be talking through the details on the timing of my departure,” he wrote in an email to employees. “I am committed to doing everything I can to make this a smooth transition.”

“I could have done a better job administratively; I could’ve done a better job listening; I could’ve done a better job communicating,” DePinho said in the video. “Forgive me for my short-comings. I regret them.”

The MD Anderson Cancer Center recorded operating losses of $102.4 million in September and October 2016; for October, the losses totaled $60.9 million, compared to a surplus of $11.5 million in the same period in 2015. DePinho accepted blame for the losses at the time.
