Comicpalooza comes to Houston

Houston's largest comic convention, Comicpalooza, kicks off at the George R. Brown Convention Center on June 17 and runs until 19.

Houston, TX--If it's hot, sticky and right around Father's Day it must be time for Houston's biggest comic convention: Comicpalooza. The three-day celebration--June 17-19--of sci-fi, fantasy and comics features 2,400 hours of programming and a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the sci-fi classic Aliens.

To help celebrate Ellen Ripley's suggestion to nuke it from orbit, it is the only way, and her iconic exo-suit vs. alien queen fight the the organizers are hosting a partial cast reunion.

Sigourney Weaver, Paul Reiser, Michael Biehn, Jenette Goldstein, William Hope, Mark Rolston, Rico Ross and Bill "Game over man" Paxton will all be making appearances and signing autographs over the weekend.

Additionally, Kate Beckinsale will be stopping by to promote the latest installment in the Underworld franchise. Comicpalooza is being held at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas, in Downtown Houston.

It runs from noon to 8 p.m. on June 17; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on June 18 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on June 19. Tickets range from $10 to $250, plus additional fees for autographs, photos, food, etc.

For the fans out there who can't make it to all three days of the convention, or don't think that three days celebrating comics, sci-fi and fantasy are nearly enough, the First Colony branch of the Ft. Bend County Library system is holding a Summer Comic-Hero Challenge from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 18.

The library, 2121 Austin Parkway in Sugar Land, allows for teenagers and adults, age 13 and up, to test their pop-culture knowledge and strategic-gaming skills.

There will be three free events to test the mettle of even the toughest geek: a cosplay costume contest, a pop-culture trivia challenge and a video game tournament. For more information call: 281-238-2800
