Confrontation Over Stolen Puppy Leads To Shooting In Houston

Two people are facing charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, according to police.

HOUSTON, TX — Two people are facing charges after they stole their neighbor's puppy in Houston and one of the suspects was shot and injured during a confontration with neighbors over the stolen pooch, according to police.

According to police, a puppy belonging to a man and woman went missing and a witness told them their neighbor had taken the dog. The couple confronted the neighbor, identified as Cedric Dewayne Gibson, 33, who denied having the animal, police say.

The couple later saw Gibson putting the puppy into a vehicle, according to cops. Police said the couple retrieved the puppy and a second suspect, identified as Trireka La Gray, 26, assaulted the woman.

Police said Gibson went and got a gun and threatened to shoot the couple. A friend of the couple who was at the scene and had a licensed handgun shot and injured Gibson. Gibson was taken to an area hospital.

The shooting happened in the 2800 block of Russell Street around 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday.

Gibson and La Gray are facing charges of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Gibson also faces a charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon, according to police.
