Dad Accused Of Hitting School Cop With Car Surrenders To Police

Steven De la Torre, 42, is charged with aggravated assault and is in the Harris County Jail, officials said.

HOUSTON — A man who police said hit a school resource officer outside of a school on Tuesday after noon, and was shot at by officers, turned himself in late Tuesday.

Steven De la Torre, 42, surrendered to deputy constables at the Harris County Pct. 5 substation and was arrested without incident. De la Torre is charged with aggravated assault and is in the Harris County Jail, officials said.

According to investigators, De la Torre showed up at The Village School near Whittington Drive in west Houston at about 1 p.m. to pickup his son.

De la Torre, who has a restraining order against him filed by a basketball coach at the school, was stopped and confronted by a police officer who recognized his vehicle.

When one of the armed security guards walked over to tell De la Torre to leave, he allegedly put his vehicle in gear and hit one of the officers.

As De la Torre sped off, one of the officers fired off three rounds, hitting his pickup, officials said. Meanwhile, De la Torre told KPRC he was not on school property and did not hit the officer.

The case is under investigation.
