Dad Let Daughter, 12, Drive Car That Hit, Killed Man And Dog: PD

The father is facing charges after the fatal incident in a Houston apartment complex parking lot.

HOUSTON, TX — A man is facing charges after police say he let his 12-year-old daughter drive a car that hit and killed a man and his dog in a Houston apartment complex.

Police charged Tomas Mejia Tol, 42, with criminal negligent homicide and endangering a child.

According to police, Mejia Tol let his 12-year-old daughter drive a black Ford Explorer in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 6060 block of Beverly Hill Street Thursday evening.

Police said the child driving the car was pulling forward from a parking space as a man walked his dog through the lot. The girl hit the accelerator and the car sped ahead and struck the man, one of his dogs and a tree, police said.

The man and dog were pronounced dead at the scene. The man's identity has not yet been released.
