Dow Chemical Announces 2,500 Layoffs

The Dow Chemical Company announced 2,500 layoffs ahead of its merger with DuPont.

La Porte, TX -- Dow Chemical announced that the company will be laying off 2,500 employees, or about 4 percent of its workforce, across the globe. The layoffs are part of the company's restructuring before a merger with DuPont, the companies announced their merger in December 2015.

As part of Dow's restructuring, the company will close plants in North Carolina and Japan as well as " certain administrative, corporate and manufacturing facilities," according to a statement from the company. Dow has not stated which facilities will be targeted for closure.

Dow has four facilities throughout the Houston area, including two in La Porte. The possible layoffs come months after DuPont announced the closure of its La Porte facility, a closure that will cost the area about 400 jobs.
