Firefighters Rescue Woman From Air Vent At Vacant Home

A woman who became trapped in an air vent of a vacant east Houston, has no memory of how she got inside, officials said.

HOUSTON — Firefighters rescued a woman who somehow managed to become lodged in an air vent at a vacant home in east Houston. Firefighters were called to a home in the 2300 block of Parker Road and Aldine Westfield Road at about 4 a.m. by a man who said he heard a woman calling for help.

Arthur Reyes told police that he was riding his bicycle to the store when he heard noises coming from the home.

When he stopped to see if someone needed help, he heard the woman calling out, who told him she was trapped.

"I was going to the store, and when I came out the store, I heard the walls - she was slapping the walls," Reyes told KPRC.

Reyes said he went back to the store and called 911.

Firefighters had to go into the home and cut a hole in the wall to pull her out. The entire procedure took about 20 minutes.

The woman was taken to LBJ Hospital where she is recovering. Officials are still trying to determine how she got in the vent.

The incident is under investigation.
