Gulf Freeway Chaos: Weekend Closures You Need To Know — UPDATE
A southbound stretch of the highway near League City will be completely closed.

Updated on May 4: There will be lane closures on the Gulf Freeway this weekend, but it won't be as bad as was originally expected. It will still be bad, so don't celebrate yet, and here's the scoop:
Good news! IH 45 Gulf Frwy NB closure from Scarsdale to Nasa Bypass for this WKND will be an alternate lane closure - not a TOTAL CLOSURE.

The southbound closure — FM518 to FM 517 — stands as previously reported
The IH 45 Gulf Frwy SB closure from FM 518 to FM 517 is still a total closure this weekend (9pm Friday to 5am Monday).

HOUSTON, TX — If you have plans to travel on the Gulf Freeway this weekend, we have some news for you: Expect delays. The Texas Department of Transportation is using its authority to shut down stretches of the roadway in both directions beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday.
First, all northbound lanes between NASA Parkway and Scarsdale Boulevard will be closed, and traffic will be forced to detour to the northbound feeder road past exits at NASA, Bay Area, El Dorado, Dixie Farm, and Scarsdale.

In the other direction, all lanes will be shut down south of League City through FM 517 beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday.

All lanes will reopen on Monday at 5 a.m.
The two stretches of the highway have been subject to ongoing construction projects.
