Houston Celebrates Annual Salute to Veterans

The city's annual Veterans Day celebration kicks off Friday, Nov. 11 with a job and health fair.

HOUSTON, TX - Veterans Day represents a national celebration of heroes, victory and peace. The National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics determined that the Texas veteran population comprised more than 1.4 million residents in 2014 alone. The City of Houston, home to approximately 300,000 veterans, will pay tribute to its veterans community through the annual Houston Salutes American Heroes on Friday, Nov. 11. The civic commemoration honors the bravery of area women, men and families who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty and freedom.

The annual celebration kicks off at Houston City Hall with a job, resource and health fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., open to past and present military personnel, an effort that pays tribute to the often-seen return of veterans who find themselves unemployed or otherwise underemployed while seeking to translate their military expertise into the job market. The celebration will also provide free, on-site health screenings and flu shots.
