Houston Rebrands Farmers Market As City Hall Local Lunch Market

HOUSTON — The City Hall Farmer's Market is coming back with a new name. The new City Hall Local Lunch Market opens back up on Wednesday, and will be open each Wednesday until June 26 from11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Hermann Square in front of City Hall, 901 Bagby St.

The spring time event, sponsored by CenterPoint Energy, will offer the public a variety of prepared, ready-to-eat foods for sale.

“This beloved lunchtime series is being rebranded to better reflect how the market has organically morphed over the last eight years,” stated Susan Christian, director of the Mayor’s Office of Special Events. “An estimated 1,500 guests attend the weekly series, which targets the downtown Houston lunch crowd, offering delicious local food in a relaxed, festive atmosphere on the grounds of City Hall.”

The market also features food trucks parked along Walker and McKinney streets and live music or DJs on the City Hall steps.

Locally produced art will also be available for sale, all amid Houston’s dramatic downtown urban setting.

“The best place to pick up a freshly prepared lunch or take-home edibles is outdoors in the heart of the nation’s most diverse city, because the market’s variety reflects Houston’s culinary, cultural and commercial connections to many corners of the world,” Mayor Sylvester Turner said.

People are encouraged to walk, take Metro’s free Greenlink (the downtown shuttle) or ride a bike via Houston Bike Share to the City Hall Local Lunch Market. Garage parking is located at 400 Rusk for a fee.
