What happened this weekend? The Houston Cougars advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA basketball playoffs, and an HPD officer is arrested.
HOUSTON — The weekend is over and it's time to get back on the information super highway. If you missed any of the news this weekend, Patch has a few local tidbits to share, and get everyone back on track.
News:
A veteran Houston Police officer was arrested on Saturday after his wife was found shot to death inside her home. HPD Sgt. Hilario Hernandez, 56, was arrested in Kingsville, Texas, about 100 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, after relatives of Belinda Hernandez dead inside her home in the 1900 block of Canyon Creek Court. Sports:
For the first time in more than 30 years, the Houston Cougars are going to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA basketball tournament. The Coogs defeated Georgia State 84-55 in round one of the tourney on Friday night, and then defeated Big 10 powerhouse Ohio State 74-59. It's the first time the U of H Cougars have been in the Sweet 16 since 1984, when NBA legends Hakeem "the Dream" Olajuwon and Clyde "the Glide" Drexler suited up for their Alma mater. The Coogs will take on the Kentucky Wildcats at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
