Investigators say Pacheco told them he was trying to change his son’s diaper when child began to cry. He was trying to calm him down by holding him and change the diaper on the infant, and dropped the child on the concrete floor.

Pacheco told investigators he noticed the injury to the child’s head but did not tell his wife. The child’s mother was in another part of the home during the incident.

Pacheco said that after a few hours the child’s breathing became labored and they called 911. Police said Pacheco could not explain the other injuries to the child or how they occurred.

He is being held on a $25,000 bond with a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.
