Funeral Services For Slain Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal

Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal, the first Sikh member of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, was killed after being shot during a traffic stop.

CYPRESS, TX — The funeral services for slain Harris County sheriff's deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal took place Wednesday at the Berry Center in Cypress.

The religious ceremony began at 10:30 a.m. and the law enforcement ceremony followed at 11:30 a.m.

Dhaliwal, who made national headlines in 2015 after being allowed to keep a turban and beard while on duty, was remembered as a trailblazing and selfless officer who gave back to the community. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Dhaliwal was involved in efforts to collect supplies for neighbors affected by flooding.
