Let's start with that Texas favorite, beef. If that's your desire, you can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris Steak House or Smith & Wollensky. Ribeye, flank, T-bone, or filet mignon, it's all there, accompanied by the usual stuff, including baked potatoes, salad, and oysters (yes, oysters).

Perhaps you want seafood. OK, no worries, because Babin's Seafood House, Fish Tales, and Oceanaire Seafood Room are all at the ready. Salmon, snapper, clams and mussels, lobster ... your dinner is set.

If something European and chef-driven is more your speed, try Charivari. Chef Johann Schuster and his wife have owned the midtown Houston restaurant for 16 years, and Schuster knows his way around a kitchen. His flatbreads are excellent, he can cook a fish with aplomb, and you won't find a nicer or more personable man.
