Montgomery County Launching Mental Health Court
Montgomery County will launch a mental health court on July 15.

Conroe, TX -- Montgomery County will add a mental health docket on July 15. The program, which is used in various counties across Texas, focuses on diverting people suffering from mental health problems to treatment instead of incarcerating them.
The court, which has its own dedicated prosecutor, will not accept violent crimes and will focus primarily on defendants with schizophrenia, bipolar and depressive disorders, according to a statement Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon gave to the Conroe Courier.
The creation of the court comes four years after Montgomery County adopted a Managed Assigned Counseling Mental Health program, which provides mentally ill defendants with specially trained attorneys, a case manager coordinator and a case worker.
