National Day Of Prayer Events Happening Around Houston

On April 17, 1952, President Harry S. Truman signed a bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law in the United States.

Thousands of people in all of Houston’s communities are expected to turn out for the 68th Annual National Day of Prayer.

Churches of every denomination are expected to take part in the national observance throughout the day. Some of the events happening in the Houston area include:

  • University Baptist Church 16106 Middlebrook Dr, Houston, TX US 77059 from 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Champions Forest Baptist Church, 15555 Stuebner Airline from 6:30-7:30 a.m.
  • Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Riverside Park from 6-7:30p.m.
  • National Day of Prayer Breakfast from 7:30 - 10 a.m. at the Virgil Gant Educational Support Center at 1928 N. Main St. in Pearland. Tickets are $10.
  • National Day of Prayer observance in Tomball, at the Gazebo from noon - 1 p.m.
  • National Day of Prayer at the Humble Civic Center, 8233 Will Clayton Parkway from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
  • National Day of Prayer Breakfast at The Woodlands Waterway, hosted by the Woodlands Kiwanis from 7:30am to 9:00am Woodlands Waterway Marriott Speaker Chad Hedrick “From Ice to Christ”
  • Houston’s Second Baptist Church will also host events at the Woodway campus throughout the day. Click here for details.

Thirty-four years later, President Ronald Reagan amended the law and designated the first Thursday of May each year as the National Day of Prayer.
