President Trump's DOJ Drops Charges Against Texas Dr. Eithan Haim

Dr. Eithan Haim and his advocates argued that he was being punished for blowing the whistle on transgender procedures being performed.

HOUSTON, TX — The U.S. Justice Department under President Donald Trump on Friday dropped the criminal charges against Dr. Eithan Haim, a Texas physician previously indicted for allegedly obtaining protected health information of patients who were not under his care.

The dismissal was submitted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John P. Pearson

Under the administration of President Joe Biden, Haim was facing up to 10 years in federal prison and a potential fine of $250,000 following a four-count indictment that accused him of accessing personal patient data — including names, treatment codes, and attending physicians — from the Texas Children’s Hospital electronic records without authorization.

"In April 2023, Haim allegedly requested to re-activate his login access at TCH to access pediatric patients not under his care," the DOJ said in June 2024. "The indictment alleges he obtained unauthorized access to personal information of pediatric patients under false pretenses and later disclosed it to a media contact."

Haim, 34, and his supporters contended that the charges were retaliatory, arguing that he was being punished for blowing the whistle on transgender procedures performed on minors at Texas Children’s Hospital in 2023.

According to the Free Press, Haim was a surgical resident in 2022 when he discovered that Texas Children’s Hospital was inserting puberty blocker implants in young patients with gender dysphoria.

Haim concluded that delaying puberty in gender-questioning children was unethical and helped conservative activist Christopher Rufo publish a story on the matter, which included redacted versions of the patients’ records.

"The case has been dismissed with prejudice so that the federal government can never again come after him for blowing the whistle on the secret pediatric transgender program at Texas Children’s Hospital," defense attorney Marcella Burke of Burke Law Group told The National Review.

"The fight against the evils he exposed continues," Burke continued. "But this dismissal represents a repudiation of the weaponization of federal law enforcement and the first step in accountability for the misdeeds we have all witnessed in this case."

Haim celebrated the news in a post on X, saying, "WE DID IT!!!! WE WON!!!!!!!"
