Spring Man Used Dating App To Lure Murder Victim: Police Say

SPRING, TX — Prosecutors said a man who bragged about hating homosexuals allegedly used an app from a dating website to rob and kill a gay man. Homicide investigators arrested 22-year-old Devonte Garrison on Sunday and charged him with capital murder in the death of Adrian Ward, 30.

Sheriff's deputies were called at about 2:25 a.m. on April 19 to the Excelsior on the Park apartments, locate in the 14300 Ella Blvd. When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle crashed into a downstairs apartment with the driver unresponsive.

The driver, who they identified as Ward, had been shot. He was taken to an area hospital and later died from his injuries.

Deputies spoke with several residents at the complex who stated they heard several gunshots before hearing a loud crash.

Homicide investigators later received a tip that Garrison had used the Tagged date app to lure Ward to the apartment complex under the ruse of hooking up, KPRC-2 reported.

When Ward arrived at the complex, Garrison allegedly robbed Ward before shooting him.

Garrison was booked into the Harris County Jail and is charged with Capital Murder. His expected to appear in court on May 1.
