Suspect Who Ran Over Woman During Robbery Surrenders: Authorities
Travon Johnson is charged with aggravated robbery after backing over a woman to try and steal her purse with $75K inside, police said.

HOUSTON, TX -- A second suspect who brutally assaulted a woman and her husband during an attempted robbery turned himself in to police on Monday. Travon Johnson, 27, was identified on Sunday as the second suspect who assaulted a couple while trying to steal a woman’s purse containing $75,000, according to a press release from the Harris County Constable’s Office.
Investigators said the woman had made a substantial withdrawal and drove to her check cashing business in the 2300 block of U.S. 290. Unbeknownst to her, the woman was followed from the bank by several men in two cars, the press release said.
A surveillance video showed the woman pulling up to the check cashing business and getting out of her car. As she walked to the front door, a small SUV pulls up and a man, later identified by authorities as 31-year-old Davis Mitchell, grabbed the woman and hit her several times as he tried to take her purse, according to the press release.

While the two men were fighting, a black Chrysler 300 drove up and Johnson got out of the driver’s seat and began beating the couple, and tried to steal the purse, authorities said.
A deputy constable who was patrolling nearby said he saw several men fighting in the parking lot with the couple. When he saw the deputy constable, Johnson got back in his car, backed over the woman and sped off. The woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition from the attack.
Mitchell grabbed the purse and took off running, but was caught by the deputy constable, according to the press release. He was taken to the Harris County Jail and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and is being held without bond.
Johnson has also been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. His bond has not been set. Investigators said they expect to file charges against others involved in this robbery.
