Texas State House 148: 2019 Election Results

Final unofficial results from the special election for Texas' State House 148 that includes parts of Houston.

HOUSTON, TX — Results were still being counted in Houston where voters residing in the State House 148 district cast their ballots in a special election to elect a new representative for their district.

The special election was called after the resignation of Rep. Jessica Farrar. The winner of the special election will serve out the rest of Farrar's term in the State House.

Farrar retired from the State House at the end of September after serving as the elected representative for the district for over two decades. A total of 15 candidates, including 12 Democrats, two Republicans and an Independent candidate, were on Tuesday's ballot vying for Farrar's old seat in the safely Democratic district.

Unofficial early voting results and all results from election day showed Democrat Anna Eastman leading with 20.33 percent of the vote, followed by Republican Luis La Rotta with 15.84 percent of the vote and without a clear majority, the election will head to a runoff. According to the latest information from the Harris County Clerk's website, 757 of 757 voting centers were reporting results in Tuesday's election.

Also on the ballot was a $3.5 billion METRO bond proposal intended to fund public transportation projects to ease traffic congestion and make mobility easier within the region.
