UH-Clear Lake Can Give Free Federal Financial Aid to Prisoners
The University of Houston Clear Lake is participating in a Pell Grant Pilot program that provides financial aid to prisoners.

CLEAR LAKE, TX — Prisoners at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Ramsey Unit in Rosharon are going to be the subjects of a study by the U.S. Department of Education.
The prison is partnering with the University of Houston-Clear Lake to see if prisoners who get a degree while they are on the inside continue a life crime once they get out.
UHCL is one 67 colleges and universities in the U.S. participating in the U.S. Department of Education's new Second Chance Pell pilot program. The program will provide free federal financial aid to the felons at Rosharon.

Not all of the cons in Ramsey are eligible to take organic chemistry and econ 101. The hitch is that the program is only open to inmates getting out within five years of completing the coursework, which is only about 350 of Ramsey's 1,613 inmates.
