Woman Charged In Fatal Hit And Run Crash Appears In Court
Jada Mimms, 20, is accused of running over and killing 64-year-old Jesus Perez and 55-year-old Lesha Adams on March 30.

HOUSTON — A woman accused of hitting and killing two people who were crossing a darkened street in the Heights on March 30 has been charged with two counts of failure to stop and render aid.
Jada Mimms, 20, was in court after her arrest on Tuesday to face a judge for the first time in the deaths of 64-year-old Jesus Perez and 55-year-old Lesha Adams.
Witnesses told police that Adams was driving home from dinner with her children in the car when she saw Perez, who was in a wheelchair, trying to cross North Shepard Drive at West 10 Street.

Adams got out to help and was pushing Perez across the street in his wheelchair when they were both hit by a Chevrolet Cruz driven by Mimms, witnesses said.

According to court documents, Mimms didn’t stop to help Adams and Perez, who both died later at Ben Taub Hospital.
Mimms told investigators that she pulled into a nearby parking lot and waited about five minutes before driving to her grandparent home.
Mimms returned to the scene of the crash 30 minutes later after her grandfather convinced her to return, Mimms passenger later told police.
Mimms was questioned at the scene and later released.
Charges were presented to the Harris County District Attorney and Mimms was charged. She is being held in the Harris County Jail with her bond set at $30,000.
