Ex-NBA Assistant Coach RJ Adelman Dies, Per Houston Police
Former Rockets assistant was struck by a car while crossing a street last week. He succumbed to his injuries today.

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Police department Thursday afternoon confirmed the death of former NBA assistant coach R.J. Adelman, son of longtime NBA head coach Rick Adelman. R.J. Adelman, 44, died after a Feb. 2 auto accident in Houston in which he was struck while crossing the street.
A spokesperson from HPD said the driver was an 80-year-old woman driving a gold Chrysler Town and Country minivan. The woman was questioned and released without charges, but the accident remains under investigation.
R.J. Adelman was a journeyman in the NBA, but on the suit side of things. Long before he was an assistant coach under his father's tutelage for the Houston Rockets, he ranged from assistant video coordinator to scout to assistant coach to director of player personnel.

His worked spanned among the Seattle Supersonics, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves. Rick Edelman was Rockets head coach (2007-2011), when R.J. was here. R.J. then became director of player personnel during Rick’s time as head coach of the Timberwolves (2011-14). R.J. was living in Houston during the time of last week's .
