Houston Gears Up to “Run for Freedom” at 9th Annual Independence Day 8K
This pre-July 4th celebratory run/walk benefits great causes and brings patriotic energy to Meyerland Plaza on Saturday, June 28.

Don’t wait until July 4th to let freedom ring! Lace up your running/walking shoes and join the patriotic fun at the 9th annual Independence Day 8K, taking place Saturday, June 28 at Meyerland Plaza (8650 Endicott Lane in Houston). This event is produced by Houston Running Company (HRC) and is the sixth event in the HRC Holiday Series that runs all year long – and it’s the perfect way to kick off the Independence Day celebrations early!
Both the 8K and 5K will kick off at 7:30 a.m. and each are designed for experienced runners all the way to novice and moms with strollers. An awards ceremony will follow at 9:15 a.m. and a Kids and Family 1K at 9:30 a.m. Free parking will be available in the surface lot at the corner of Endicott Lane and Jackwood Street.
“We love the 4th of July so much, we started the party a week ahead of schedule,” said HRC Co-Founder Randi Schooley. “The Independence Day 8K is more than a community event that brings friends and family together; it’s also a celebration of our freedoms. A bonus is that each registration helps to fund four amazing organizations that are serving the local community.”
